DynaStrip releases for Macintosh

  1. All job components from previous versions (such as marks, output devices, plate definitions) are compatible with the new DynaStrip version, so the latest version can be installed over an existing one. However, it is strongly recommended to keep a backup copy of the entire previous DynaStrip folder before upgrading. Please see Upgrade procedure in Release Notes document.
  2. You may need an activation code to use the latest version: contact activation@dynagram.com. You should obtain your upgrade code BEFORE installing.

  Version 5.2.0

Compatible with: Mac OS X 10.3+

If you have version 5.1 and lower, you must purchase an upgrade.

What is new in this release: DynaStrip 5.2.0 - Macintosh

Barcodes

DynaStrip 5.2 now supports different barcode standards for integration with post-press equipments. Supported standards include the 2/5 interleaved used by WST Systemtechnik GmbH, as well as the Code128c and the 2/5 interleaved standards read by Müller Martini AG Asir (Automatic Signature Image Recognition). Barcodes that are attached to signatures on the imposition template are dynamically actualized by DynaStrip for each signature. When gathering the product, an optical reader scans barcodes to verify if signatures are missing or misplaced in the publication. The following faults can be detected:
• Missing sheets in the product
• Sheets with an incorrect product number, for example from another job
• Incorrect sequence of sheets
• Incorrect orientation of sheets in the feeder
The application is able to print barcodes in the following formats: PDF, PS, EPS, PJTF and JDF.

New Option for Page Marks

A new option in the Pagination Sequence dialogue allows the page marks and page outline to follow the creep compensation adjustment or to remain static. The current default behaviour of DynaStrip is to move the page marks with the creep compensation adjustment.
When the sheet must be cut in sections before the folding and trimming, static page marks will allow for easier alignment of cutters.

Automatic Color Addition

A new option (Add all colors automatically to the color table) has been added to the Preferences dialogue to allow a complete automation of the insertion of source documents in DynaStrip. When this option is selected, all detected colors are automatically added to the color table without warning the user.
This option is especially useful for DynaStream automation module. It should be used with care, only in preflighted workflow environments to avoid the creation of extra color plates.

Enhancements to DynaStrip Automation

The DynaStream module (that is part of DynaStrip Automation edition) has been improved to increase its automation level.
New options now allow for automated deleting or moving input source document files to another location once the job has been processed and all flats are output. This clears up the hot folder which is then ready to receive new document files. DynaStream can then start over a new job without any user intervention, based on the same layout.
These options are offered as DynaStream preferences.

What is new in this release: DynaStrip 5.2.0 - Macintosh

  Version 4.4.2

Compatible with: OS X & OS 9

If you have version 4.3 or lower you must purchase an upgrade.

What is new in this release: DynaStrip 4.4.2 - Macintosh

MAC OSX.4 “Tiger” Compatible!
  • DynaStrip 4.4 has been fully tested and is compatible with Macintosh’s newest operating system, OSX.4 “Tiger.”

Increased application support including Acrobat® 7 and QuarkXPressTM 6.5
  • DynaStrip 4.4 now supports Adobe Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6), QuarkXPress 6.5, Adobe InDesign 3,and Corel Creative Suite 12.
  • DynaStrip 4.4 also offers improved support for files created in Adobe Illustrator 6-10, InDesign 2, QuarkXpress, PageMaker 6.5, and Creo Export for Prepress.
  • Enhanced compatibility with additional applications and versions.

Improved creep functions
  • With version 4.4, creep settings have become more flexible and better adapted to the reality of the printing industry, giving user the ability to make very sophisticated adjustments.
  • Creep can now be adjusted horizontally or vertically, making it easier to impose calendar jobs.
  • Maximum creep value or paper thickness values can be used, along with a start value and the direction (push in and push out).

Centering of imported marks
  • In order to comply with the widest range of optical readers and press requirements, imported marks such as color bars can be positioned and cropped either from the left or the centre of their placeholder. This is useful when a mark needs to be centered on the sheet precisely.

User-defined default settings
  • In addition to existing object libraries, DynaStrip object parameters in their definition window can now be saved as defaults for all new jobs. This is useful to avoid re-setting the same parameters every time a new job is created. Each object definition window has a Save as default button that stores the settings in a file. These preferences can be set for sheets, signatures, pages, page marks, linear marks, register marks, collating marks, imported marks, density bars, text tags, distance tags, and tiling breaks.
  • User-defined defaults for sheets, signatures, pages, page marks, and collating mark are pre-selected in DynaMo, speeding up job configuration.
  • In the case of default parameters for signatures, page and page mark parameters will be overwritten by default parameters set from the Page Definition and Page Mark definition windows.

Enhanced support for Preps® templates
  • DynaStrip’s support for Preps templates has been dramatically improved.
  • DynaStrip now supports all signature types, independent pages, up to 30 sheets per template, page bleed and trim marks, imported marks, and Preps objects (exposure bars, collating marks, register marks, line marks, text marks, side guides, flat ID strings, rectangle marks, and fold marks).
  • Even though the placement of objects in DynaStrip’s layout may display objects positioned over pages, all objects will be placed correctly at output.
  • DynaStrip also supports Preps templates created from third-party applications Creo UpFront and Lithotechnics Metrix.

Tumble pagination sequences
  • DynaStrip’s tumble feature is more comprehensive and allows pages, signatures, and all their attached objects to behave in a tumble manner on the light table.
  • The tumble pagination option will take into account that the sheet will be flipped from top to bottom, instead of being flipped from right to left, in order to print the back. This is useful when working with perfecting presses.

Output file name support for JDF
  • All JDF users can now customize their output file name using text and variables.

SMB network support
  • DynaStrip for Macintosh can now use both AFP file services (Apple Filing Protocol) and SMB file services (Windows file sharing) network protocols. Files can be saved and accessed through either of the protocols.
  • Files created through a protocol must keep using that same protocol. For example, an imposition job created and saved through SMB must be subsequently opened using the SMB network protocol. If a link towards a file (such as an imported mark) is created through a file system and open through another, the link will be broken.
  • Mac OS supports SMB from OS X. We recommend using OS X 10.3 and later.

  Version 4.3.2

Compatible with: OS X (10.3.9 max) & OS 9

If you have version 4.2 or lower you must purchase an upgrade.

What is new in this release: DynaStrip 4.3.2 - Macintosh

Complete with more JDF capabilities, automatic color matching and advanced pagination options, DynaStrip 4.3 continues to automate and accelerate the imposition process.

New Multi-Web and Partial Web Pagination
  • DynaStrip now automatically paginates custom saddle-stitched jobs with any number of webs and partial webs. All partial web configurations (half-webs, quarter-webs, etc.) are supported in any number, at any sheet rank, and with any web position (gear side, operator side, et al.).
  • This new algorithm also eases the pagination of multi-web templates. Pre-paginated booklets can then be stacked and page numbers incremented for the job. These comprehensive pagination options allow you to generate the perfect result when working in a multiple-web environment such as newspapers printing.

New JDF Transmission via HTTP Protocol at JDF Output
  • In addition to hot folders for communicating JDF data, DynaStrip now features job file transmission via the HTTP protocol. A JDF file packaged in a MIME message is sent to an HTTP server during output. The status of the HTTP transfer received from the server is displayed on-screen and the details of the transmission are stored in a log file. This HTTP output fonctionality can be used in a local network environment, a wide-area network (WAN), or across the internet.

New Automatic Color Match
  • Designed to automate the use of imported marks, the Automatic Color Matching preference allows DynaStrip to match the spot colors found in the imported mark (color bar, etc.) to the 5th or 6th colors of the job. The match can be viewed and overridden at any time in the color table.
  • The Automatic Color Match is especially useful when used with the Job Ticket Flow tool because the same imported mark is “regenerated” at every new job output.

Extended Automation with Job Ticket Flow
  • DynaStrip’s Job Ticket Flow module has been significantly improved with the ability to control the job creation from an external client or workflow system. DynaStrip is then used as an imposition engine that repeats the template according to the job parameters (binding, number of pages, creep, etc.) and outputs the imposed file without any user intervention.

  • Direct-layout PDF preview (available on OS X only): The Raster Mode function can be used to display PDF pages directly in DynaStrip design window. The PDF preview offers the ability to customize the imposition layout based on the page content (example: bleed, crossover images, superimpositon of pages, etc.). The installation of Adobe Acrobat® is not required as the OS X Quartz display engine understands PDF natively. Should a PDF file contain features that are not supported by Quartz, the preview may be affected but the file will not be harmed. When clicking on the Raster Mode icon, PDF pages (not thumbnails) show up in the imposition layout, allowing for accurate proofing even when zooming at any percentage.
  • Special spot color for Outline trim boxes: DynaStrip has printing options for outline page trims that can be used for imposition proofing or layout only. Outline page trims now use a special color layer called DSOutline. Outlines do not print on other color plates. Therefore, output files created for proofing can also be used for final imaging (ROOM). DSOutline color definition can be customized using CMYK colors in the Preferences dialog box. The default color is red (100% Magenta + 100% Yellow).
  • Ability to place imported marks on a network server (multi-station installations): Imported mark definition and adjustment files are saved in the DynaStrip:Marks folder by default. Users can also choose a new folder in the Preferences dialog box. When sharing imported mark, it is important to keep the image intact on the server. Any modification in the Image Linker window would affect all jobs using this image. The image size can be changed for a specific job in the Imported Mark Definition window. The "Use this size" option will crop or repeat the image to automatically fill up the entire defined area. IMPORTANT NOTE: To use the shared Marks folder, open or create a job, then go to Preferences and link the Marks folder to a folder on the network. For easier use, we recommend that image files (EPS, PDF, etc.) be located in a sub-folder inside the Marks folder.
  • Increased speed: The job processing has been optimized to fully benefit from Unix-based OS X capabilities.
  • JDF output mode: Exporting a job from DynaStrip in JDF format produces two files: an imposition plan using the CIP4 Job Definition Format standard, plus a PDF file for imposition marks. This release of DynaStrip implements generic JDF imposition plans that may have to be more closely integrated with specific workflow systems.
  • Multi-tasking capability: OS X is a multi-tasking environment. An automation module such as DynaStream could thus handle multiple imposition jobs simultaneously. Contrary to Windows, Mac OS X does not permit the opening of the same application many times. The entire DynaStrip folder must thus be copied as many times as required on the workstation to benefit from the OS X multi-tasking capability.
  • New output module: In OS X environment, when sending the imposition directly to a selected output device (via a "Printer" or a "Hot Folder"), a temporary PostScript file is created on the workstation for each sheet, and these files are automatically sent to the device once completed. The workstation should have enough available disk space to handle these temporary output files.
  • New OS X Aqua application icons: DynaStrip 4.0 features new Finder icons to comply with OS X Aqua user interface. The family includes icons for application, documents, folders, preferences, and plug-ins. The main icon represents the encompassing stroke of DynaStrip logo and uses the product package background and colors. All tools icons in the application have also been upgraded to allow for background transparency.
  • PDF trapping annotations (Trap Network) imposition: DynaStrip 4.0 offers the ability to impose PDF 1.3 trap network annotations used by Adobe® Extreme® PDF Trapper technology. About Trapper technology: When trapping a PDF file in an Extreme® system, the user specifies trapping controls in PJTF. The trapping is executed by the PDF Trapper technology, which generates the traps and stores them as a special annotation in the PDF file. The PDF file can then be printed to the Adobe Printer Job Ticket Processor or an Adobe PostScript 3 RIP. Users can view the trapped PDF file in Acrobat.
  • New PDF filter: A new PDF filter detects PDF type (PDF1.3, PDF1.4, PDF/X, securized PDF files, etc.). After PDF document pages are updated in the Document list, the PDF type appears in the list for each file. If the filter encounters a secure or encrypted PDF file, the error message "SEC" displays in the list. The filter also permits PDF pages with a TrimBox definition or without proper cropping information to center automatically in DynaStrip pages.
  • PDF Output Device configuration for PDF 1.3 or 1.4 creation: In the Configuration drop down menu of the Output Device Definition window, options are now available for PDF1.3 or PDF1.4. The selected PDF version number will be reflected in PDF imposition files in order to comply with output device’s specifications.
  • Job Ticket Flow module for Artwork Systems® Odystar® (OEM): This module permits the reading of XML-format job tickets in a hot folder for automated imposition jobs. This feature needs a special activation code.
  • Populated PJTF: JT imposition plans can now be populated with source files. The user simply has to index PDF files in the Document List & Imposition Index dialog, and output in PJTF mode as usual.
  • New support for EFI Velocity OneFlow®: Job Tickets generated by DynaStrip 4.0.2+ are now compatible with EFI Velocity OneFlow workflow system using PJTF output format. Imposition plans can also be populated with PDF files and benefit from direct-layout PDF page preview.
